This summer, the Shaw Ocean Discovery Centre is running a program for youth oceaneers who want to learn and experience more of the Centre and the Salish Sea. From Monday to Thursday for eight weeks in the summer, youth will be doing games, workshops, beach/dock walks, field trips and more. Part of each day will also involve a shift on the floor and interpreting for visitors. Activities will be based on the theme of the week. In July the themes are about ecosystems and habitat, while in August we will be focusing on animals and classification. The fourth and eighth weeks are special review weeks, where the youth oceaneers will put their knowledge to the test through games and challenges. Along the way, each group will post about their day on this site, in the Sea Key section, along with photos, videos and updates from the Youth Oceaneer Leader.
The Youth Oceaneer Summer Program has now wrapped up, after eight weeks of volunteering activities inside and outside the Centre! From doing crafts, playing games, working floor shifts to our adventures out on the beach, its been wondeful. Thank you to the twenty youth who participated, and spent their summer learning about the Salish Sea, and everyone who helped us out.
